Saturday, May 2nd -- Grace Immanuel UCC will again be preparing meals for St. John's Center. They could use 2-3 volunteers from 9-10:30 or so to assist with that. Of course, many of us will be assisting Di Moten with her move, but if you're able to assist with the meals, please let me know so we don't overwhelm with too many volunteers.
Wednesday, May 6th at 3pm - you're invited to a Metro Council Committee Meeting to take a stand for the rights of our Transgender and Gender-expansive community members. Let's help show that Christians can stand on the side of inclusion! You may also wish to call Metro Council Members and the Mayor to make our voices heard!
1st 2 weeks of May -- in collaboration with the organization "For Lady's Sake" Jeff Street will be hosting an in-person and virtual donation drive to gather period supplies for those in need. We'll have a bin under the table at the top of the entry stairs, or you can donate directly though this Amazon link - just note that it is from Jeff Street. And we'll need a volunteer to deliver the donations to their event on May 16th. Let Amy know if this is something you'd like to assist with.
This past week, I took some time to go and participate with Grace Hope Presbyterian for their monthly senior food pantry. On the 3rd Tuesday of each month (May will be May 19th -- election day) -- we gather from around 12:30-2:30 to help distribute food to seniors. There's a bit of heavy lifting, but this is a great opportunity to connect with this beautiful congregation and support getting food to those in need.
CLOUT invites us to attend Metro Council Meetings on May 14th, June 11th and June 25th (the budget vote). The meetings start at 6pm, but we'll try to gather in the lobby at 5:30 to go in as a group. These meetings are opportunities to continue to make our voices heard as we advocate for funding for the Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund to add Permanent Supportive Housing to their list of priorities for Louisville.
Sunday, May 31st from 2-4pm, Grace Hope Presbyterian Church is hosting a Guns to Gardens event for members of the community to surrender any guns they no longer wish to own and they will be destroyed and the parts turned into jewelry and garden tools. If you know of someone who has a gun they no longer wish to have, please encourage them to bring it here. This is a voluntary surrender, not coercive at any level.
